  • Activated 13 May 1947 at Dallas, Texas
  • (Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
  • Inactivated 1 August 1952 at Dallas, Texas
  • Redesignated 13 December 1979 as the 420th Transportation Center
  • Activated 16 April 1982 at Los Angeles, California
  • Location changed in 1997 to Sherman Oaks, California
  • Reorganized and redesignated 16 September 2000 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 420th Transportation Battalion
  • Ordered into active military service 2 January 2004 at Sherman Oaks, California; released from active military service 29 June 2005 and reverted to reserve status
  • Ordered into active military service 19 July 2008 at Sherman Oaks, California; released from active military service 22 August 2009 and reverted to reserve status
  • Ordered into active military service 28 January 2012 at Sherman Oaks, California
