949th SUPPORT BATTALION

 

Organized 1 June 1936 in the Texas National Guard as the 1st Battalion, 133d Field Artillery, an element of the 36th Division; Headquarters organized and Federally recognized 27 July 1936 at Fort Worth

Inducted into Federal service 25 November 1940 at Fort Worth

Reorganized and redesignated 1 February 1942 as the 133d Field Artillery Battalion, an element of the 36th Infantry Division

Reorganized and redesignated 5 November 1942 as the 155th Field Artillery Battalion

Inactivated 18 December 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia

Expanded and redesignated 2 July 1946 as the 155th Field Artillery Battalion (hereafter separate lineage) and the 749th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion, an element of the 49th Armored Division

749th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion organized and Federally recognized
7 February 1949 with Headquarters at Fort Worth

Redesignated 31 October 1952 as the 949th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion

Redesignated 16 March 1959 as the 949th Ordnance Battalion

Ordered into active Federal service 15 October 1961 at home stations; released from active Federal service 9 August 1962 and reverted to state control

Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1963 as the 949th Maintenance Battalion

Relieved 15 January 1968 from assignment to the 49th Armored Division

Assigned 1 November 1973 to the 49th Armored Division

Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 July 1985 as the 2d Battalion, 49th Armored Division Support Command

Reorganized and redesignated 1 June 1987 as the 949th Support Battalion

Ordered into active Federal service 28 August 2008 at home stations; released from active Federal service 1 October 2009 and reverted to state control
