Constituted 13 January 1945 in the Army of the United States as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 592d Quartermaster Battalion

Activated 10 February 1945 in Egypt

Redesignated 28 March 1945 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 592d  Quartermaster Service Battalion

Inactivated 10 October 1945 in Egypt

Redesignated 23 May 1947 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 378th Quartermaster Battalion, and allotted to the Organized Reserves

Activated 25 June 1947 at Portland, Oregon

(Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)

Inactivated 31 August 1950 at Portland, Oregon

Activated 28 March 1963 at Annville, Pennsylvania (organic elements constituted
5 November 1962)

Battalion broken up 31 January 1968 and its elements reorganized and redesignated as follows:

Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 378th Supply and Service Battalion

(Companies A, C, D, and E as the 1003d, 1004th, 1006th, and 1005th Supply Companies, respectively; Company B as the 1007th Maintenance Company – hereafter    separate lineages)

Reorganized and redesignated 16 April 1994 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 378th Support Battalion

Ordered into active military service 10 February 2003 at Annville, Pennsylvania; released from active military service 13 June 2004 and reverted to reserve status

Reorganized and redesignated 27 October 2006 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 378th Support Battalion
