47th SUPPORT BATTALION
(ONE OF THE ORIGINALS)

  • Constituted 7 January 1939 in the Regular Army as the 4th Medical Squadron and assigned to the 7th Cavalry Brigade
  • Activated 1 February 1939 at Fort Knox, Kentucky
  • Headquarters reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1940 as the 4th Medical Troop (organic elements of the 4th Medical Squadron concurrently inactivated)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 15 July 1940 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 47th Medical Battalion (organic elements concurrently activated); concurrently relieved from assignment to the 7th Cavalry Brigade and assigned to the 1st Armored Division
  • Redesignated 1 January 1942 as the 47th Armored Medical Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 20 July 1944 as the 47th Medical Battalion, Armored
  • Reorganized and redesignated 19 March 1945 as the 47th Armored Medical Battalion
  • Inactivated 10 April 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey
  • Activated 7 March 1951 at Fort Hood, Texas
  • Reorganized and redesignated 15 February 1957 as the 47th Medical Battalion
  • Inactivated (less Company B) 23 December 1957 at Fort Polk, Louisiana
  • Activated (less Company B) 3 February 1962 at Fort Hood, Texas
  • Inactivated 15 September 1985 in Germany
  • Converted and redesignated 1 May 1987 as the 47th Support Battalion and activated in Germany as an element of the 1st Armored Division
  • Relieved 16 September 2010 from assignment to the 1st Armored Division and assigned to the 2d Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division
