             Constituted 23 March 1966 in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 86th Signal Battalion

            Activated 1 June 1966 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina

            Inactivated 30 April 1971 in Vietnam
           
            Activated 1 July 1977 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona

            Reorganized and redesignated 16 January 1998 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 86th Signal Battalion (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
