345th REGIMENT

  • Constituted 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 345th Infantry and assigned to the 87th Division
  • Organized 1 September 1917 at Camp Pike, Arkansas
  • Demobilized 18 January - 10 March 1919 at Camp Upton, New York, and Camp Dix, New Jersey
  • Reconstituted 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 345th Infantry and assigned to the 87th Division (later redesignated as the 87th Infantry Division)
  • Organized in December 1921 with Headquarters at Birmingham, Alabama
  • Ordered into active military service 15 December 1942 and reorganized at Camp McCain, Mississippi
  • Inactivated 21 September 1945 at Fort Benning, Georgia
  • Activated 9 December 1946 in the Organized Reserves with Headquarters at Chattanooga, Tennessee
  • (Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
  • Relieved 1 March 1952 from assignment to the 87th Infantry Division and assigned to the 81st Infantry Division
  • (Location of Headquarters changed 31 March 1953 to Nashville, Tennessee)
  • Reorganized 1 May 1959 as a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System to consist of the 1st Battle Group, an element of the 81st Infantry Division
  • Reorganized 1 April 1963 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 81st Infantry Division
  • 1st and 2d Battalions inactivated 31 December 1965 and relieved from assignment to the 81st Infantry Division
  • 345th Infantry withdrawn 1 October 1993 from the Combat Arms Regimental System; concurrently redesignated as the 345th Regiment and reorganized to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 87th Division (Exercise)
  • Reorganized 13 January 1995 to consist of the 2d and 3d Battalions, elements of the 87th Division (Exercise)
  • Reorganized 17 October 1999 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 87th Division (Training Support); 1st Battalion concurrently allotted to the Regular Army
  • (2d and 3d Battalions released 1 April 2007 from assignment to the 87th Division [Training Support])
  • (1st Battalion released 15 December 2007 from assignment to the 87th Division [Training Support])
