  • Mustered into Federal service 19 September 1814; mustered out of Federal service 29 October 1814
  • Reassigned 25 April 1840 to the 4th Battalion of Artillery, 3d Brigade, 2d Division; on 4 January 1842 to the 7th Regiment of Artillery
  • Redesignated 25 April 1842 as Company B, 2d Regiment of Artillery
  • Disbanded 24 February 1851
  • Reorganized 2 August 1852 in the Massachusetts Militia at Gloucester as Company E (American Guard), 2d Regiment of Artillery
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 26 February 1855 as Company G, 8th Regiment of Infantry
  • Mustered into Federal service 30 April 1861 at Annapolis, Maryland; mustered out of Federal service 1 August 1861 at Boston
  • While remaining in state service, Company G, 8th Regiment of Infantry, additionally organized the following unit for Federal service:
  • Company C, 23d Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, mustered into Federal service 28 September 1861 at Lynnfield; mustered out of Federal service 25 June 1865 at New Bern, North Carolina
  • Mustered into Federal service 30 October 1862 at Wenham; mustered out of Federal service 7 August 1863 at Boston
  • Mustered into Federal service 26 July 1864 at Readville; mustered out of Federal service 10 November 1864 at Readville
  • Company G, 8th Regiment of Infantry, disbanded 2 December 1885
  • Reorganized 18 February 1886 in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia at Gloucester as Company G, 8th Infantry
  • Mustered into Federal service 11-14 May 1898 at Framingham; mustered out of Federal service 28 April 1899
  • (Massachusetts Volunteer Militia redesignated 15 November 1907 as the Massachusetts National Guard)
  • Mustered into Federal service 25 June 1916 at Framingham; mustered out of Federal service 18 November 1916 at Gloucester

  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1972 as Battery A, 2d Battalion, 102d Field Artillery
  • Location changed 1 December 1974 to Lexington
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 April 1975 as the 972d Military Police Company and relieved from assignment to the 26th Infantry Division
  • Location changed 1 January 1980 to Newton
  • Ordered into active Federal service 22 November 1990 at Newton; released from active Federal service 18 May 1991 and reverted to state control
  • Location changed 1 October 1994 to Melrose
