171st FIELD ARTILLERY REGIMENT

 

Constituted 1 April 1963 in the Oklahoma Army National Guard as the 171st Artillery, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System; concurrently organized from existing units to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 45th Infantry Division

Reorganized 1 February 1968 to consist of the 1st Battalion

Redesignated 1 May 1972 as the 171st Field Artillery

Withdrawn 1 June 1989 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System

Reorganized 1 December 1991 to consist of the 1st Battalion (less Battery C allotted to the Texas Army National Guard)

Ordered into active Federal service 3 September 2002 at home stations; released from active Federal service 2 September 2003 and reverted to state control

Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 171st Field Artillery Regiment

Reorganized 1 September 2008 to consist of Battery B

(Battery B, 171st Field Artillery Regiment, organized and Federally recognized 25 February 2010 at Altus)

(Location of Battery B changed 1 July 2010 to Weatherford)
