  • Organized in 1891 in the Florida State Troops at Live Oak as the Suwannee Rifles
  • Reorganized and redesignated in 1892 as Company D, 3d Battalion of Infantry
  • Redesignated in 1895 as Company A, 4th Battalion of Infantry
  • Mustered into Federal service 23 May 1898 at Tampa as Company L, 1st Florida Volunteer Infantry; mustered out of Federal service 3 December 1898 at Tampa
  • Reorganized and redesignated in August 1899 as Company E, 1st Regiment of Infantry
  • (Florida State Troops redesignated in 1909 as the Florida National Guard)
  • Disbanded in 1912 at Live Oak
  • Reorganized in April 1917 in the Florida National Guard at Live Oak as Company E, 1st Regiment of Infantry
  • Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917 at Jacksonville
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1917 as the 5th Company, 56th Depot Brigade, an element of the 31st Division
  • (56th Depot Brigade demobilized 31 October 1917 at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, and personnel transferred to other organizations in the 31st Division)
  • Former Company E, 1st Regiment of Infantry, reorganized and Federally recognized
  • 11 February 1920 in the Florida National Guard at Live Oak as the 3d Separate Company, Infantry
  • Reorganized and redesignated 5 January 1921 as Company E, 1st Infantry
  • Redesignated 19 December 1921 as Company E, 154th Infantry, an element of the 39th Division
  • Redesignated 1 July 1923 as Company E, 124th Infantry, an element of the 31st Division
  • Inducted into Federal service 25 November 1940 at Live Oak
  • (124th Infantry relieved 13 June 1946 from assignment to the 31st Division [later redesignated as the 31st Infantry Division])
  • Inactivated 2 March 1944 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina
  • Activated 5 April 1944 in Australia as an element of the 31st Infantry Division
  • Inactivated 16 December 1945 at Camp Stoneman, California
  • (124th Infantry relieved 13 June 1946 from assignment to the 31st Infantry Division; assigned 5 July 1946 to the 48th Infantry Division [later redesignated as the 48th Armored Division])
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 8 October 1946 in the Florida National Guard at Live Oak as Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 November 1955 as Company A, 187th Tank Battalion, an element of the 48th Armored Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 15 April 1959 as Company A, 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 187th Armor, an element of the 48th Armored Division
  • Reoganized and redesignated 15 February 1963 as Company A, 1st Battalion, 187th Armor, an element of the 53d Separate Infantry Brigade (later redesignated as the 53d Armored Brigade)
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 20 January 1968 as Company C, 3d Battalion, 124th Infantry, an element of the 53d Infantry Brigade
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 December 1968 as the 269th Engineer Company and relieved from assignment to the 53d Infantry Brigade
  • Ordered into active Federal service 21 November 1990 at Live Oak; released from active Federal service 16 May 1991 and reverted to state control
  • Ordered into active Federal service 3 February 2003 at Live Oak; released from active Federal service 19 June 2004 and reverted to state control
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 September 2007 as the 868th Engineer Company
