588th Engineer Battalion

  • Constituted 1 January 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 388th Engineer Battalion
  • Activated 10 January 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana
  • Redesignated 1 January 1943 as the 388th Engineer General Service Regiment
  • Inactivated 18 December 1945 in the Philippines
  • Regiment (less Medical Detachment; Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Battalion; and 2d Battalion) reorganized and redesignated 25 February 1954 as the 588th Engineer Battalion and allotted to the Regular Army (remainder of regiment concurrently disbanded)
  • 588th Engineer Battalion activated 30 June 1954 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia
  • Inactivated 16 November 1970 at Fort Lewis, Washington
  • Activated 21 June 1976 at Fort Polk, Louisiana
  • (Company B withdrawn 16 October 1984 from the Regular Army and allotted to the Army Reserve)
  • Assigned 16 June 1991 to the 5th Infantry Division; relieved 16 December 1992 from assignment to the 5th Infantry Division and assigned to the 2d Armored Division
  • (Company B withdrawn 15 October 1993 from the Army Reserve and allotted to the Regular Army)
  • Relieved 15 January 1996 from assignment to the 2d Armored Division and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division
  • Inactivated 15 December 2004 at Fort Hood, Texas, and relieved from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division
  • Assigned 17 March 2014 to the 3d Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, and activated at Fort Carson, Colorado
