- Activated 17 December 1946 with Headquarters at Wilmington, Delaware

- Redesignated 16 June 1948 as the 458th Engineer Combat Battalion
- Reorganized and redesignated 20 July 1953 as the 458th Engineer Battalion
- (Location of Headquarters changed 1 May 1959 to Johnstown, Pennsylvania)
- Ordered into active military service 7 December 2003 at Johnstown, Pennsylvania; released from active military service 3 June 2005 and reverted to reserve status
