  • Redesignated 2 November 1889 as Company A, 1st Infantry Regiment
  • Mustered into Federal service 20 May 1898 at Camp Briggs, North Dakota, as Company A, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry; mustered out of Federal service 25 September 1899 at the Presidio of San Francisco, California
  • Reorganized in November 1899 in the North Dakota National Guard at Bismarck as Company A, 1st Infantry Regiment
  • Mustered into Federal service 1 July 1916; mustered out of Federal service 14 February 1917 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota
  • Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917
  • Reorganized and redesignated 4 October 1917 as Company A, 164th Infantry, an element of the 41st Division
  • Demobilized 28 February 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 16 May 1923 in the North Dakota National Guard at Bismarck as Company A, 164th Infantry, an element of the 34th Division
  • Inducted into Federal service 10 February 1941 at Bismarck
  • (164th Infantry relieved 8 December 1941 from assignment to the 34th Division; assigned 24 May 1942 to the Americal Division)
  • Inactivated 24 November 1945 at Fort Lawton, Washington
  • (164th Infantry relieved 10 June 1946 from assignment to the Americal Division and assigned to the 47th Infantry Division)
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 29 August 1947 at Bismarck
  • Ordered into active Federal service 16 January 1951 at Bismarck (Headquarters Company, 164th Infantry [NGUS], organized and Federally recognized 16 January 1953 at Bismarck)
  • Released 2 December 1954 from active Federal service and reverted to state control; Federal recognition concurrently withdrawn from Headquarters Company, 164th Infantry (NGUS)
  • Converted and redesignated 15 April 1955 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 164th Engineer Group, and relieved from assignment to the 47th Infantry Division
  • Ordered into active Federal service 15 October 1961 at Bismarck; released 9 August 1962 from active Federal service and reverted to state control
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 September 1998 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, Engineer Brigade, 34th Infantry Division
  • Ordered into active Federal service 22 March 2007 at Bismarck
  • Consolidated 1 September 2008 with and Headquarters Company, 142d Engineer Battalion (see ANNEX), and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 141st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade
