229th Chemical Company

  • Organized and Federally recognized 30 November 1956 in the Virginia Army National Guard at Roanoke as Company C, 116th Infantry, an element of the 29th Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 June 1959 as Company C, 1st Battle Group, 116th Infantry
  • Reorganized and redesignated 22 March 1963 as Company C, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry
  • Converted and redesignated 1 February 1968 as Company D, 728th Maintenance Battalion; concurrently, relieved from assignment to the 29th Infantry Division and assigned to the 28th Infantry Division
  • Consolidated 1 April 1975 with Detachment 1, Company B, 228th Supply and Transport Battalion (organized and Federally recognized 1 February 1968 at Lynchburg); consolidated unit redesignated as the 421st Maintenance Company, and relieved from assignment to the 28th Infantry Division; concurrently, location changed to Roanoke
  • Converted and redesignated 1 October 1976 as the 212th Signal Detachment and assigned to the 116th Infantry Brigade
  • Relieved 1 July 1986 from assignment to the 116th Infantry Brigade
  • Converted and redesignated 27 May 1988 as the 229th Chemical Company and assigned to the 29th Infantry Division
  • Ordered into active Federal service 24 February 2003 at Roanoke; released from active Federal service 7 June 2003 and reverted to state control
  • Location changed 1 November 2009 to Rocky Mount
  • Consolidated 1 May 2013 with Detachment 1, 229th Chemical Company (organized and Federally recognized 25 August 2006 at Danville), and consolidated unit designated as the 229th Chemical Company
  • HOME STATION: Rocky Mount (less detachment at Danville)
