168th Aviation Regiment

  • Organized and Federally recognized 15 April 1959 in the Washington Army National Guard at Camp Murray as the 41st Aviation Company (Washington part) and assigned to the 41st Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1963 as Headquarters Company (Washington part), 41st Aviation Battalion, an element of the 41st Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1964 as Headquarters Detachment (Washington part), 41st Aviation Battalion
  • Consolidated 1 January 1968 with the 41st Aviation Company (organized and Federally recognized 1 March 1963 at Camp Murray as Company B, 31st Aviation Battalion; reorganized and redesignated 14 November 1965 as the 41st Aviation Company) and consolidated unit reorganized and redesignated at Tacoma as the 81st Aviation Company; concurrently relieved from assignment to the 41st Infantry Division and assigned to the 81st Infantry Brigade
  • Redesignated 1 May 1971 as the 540th Aviation Company and relieved from assignment to the 81st Infantry Brigade
  • Redesignated 1 June 1978 as the 541st Aviation Company
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 September 1979 as the Attack Helicopter Troop, 116th Armored Cavalry
  • Expanded, reorganized and redesignated 1 September 1989 as the 168th Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System, to consist of the 1st Battalion
  • Reorganized 1 September 1995 in the Washington and Oregon Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion and Company E
  • Reorganized 4 November 1999 to consist of the 1st Battalion, and Companies E and L
  • Reorganized 1 November 2002 in the Washington and Hawaii Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, and Company E
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 168th Aviation Regiment
  • Reorganized 1 September 2006 in the Washington, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 40th Infantry Division
  • (1st Battalion ordered into active Federal service 7 June 2007 at home stations; released from active Federal service 1 June 2008 and reverted to state control)
  • (1st Battalion ordered into active Federal service 15 February 2011 at home stations; released from active Federal service 20 March 2012 and reverted to state control)
