104th Aviation Regiment

  • Organized and Federally recognized 1 June 1960 in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard at Washington as the Direct Support Platoon, 28th Aviation Company, an element of the 28th Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 17 February 1968 as Company B, 28th Aviation Battalion, an element of the 28th Infantry Division
  • Redesignated 1 January 1975 as the Support Company, 28th Aviation Battalion
  • Converted and redesignated 1 April 1975 as Troop D, 1st Squadron, 104th Cavalry, an element of the 28th Infantry Division
  • Expanded, converted, and redesignated 1 October 1986 as the 28th Aviation Battalion, and remained assigned to the 28th Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1987 as the 104th Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System, with Headquarters at Washington, to consist of the 1st Battalion and Companies D, E (allotted to the West Virginia Army National Guard), and F, elements of the 28th Infantry Division, and Companies G and H
  • Reorganized 1 September 1990 in the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Army National Guard, to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 28th Infantry Division, and Companies F, G and H
  • Reorganized 1 September 1995 in the Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and West Virginia Army National Guard, to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 28th Infantry Division, and Companies F, G and H
  • Reorganized 1 September 1996 in the Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, and West Virginia Army National Guard, to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 28th Infantry Division, and Companies F, G, and H
  • Location of Headquarters changed 1 April 1997 to Johnstown
  • (Company H ordered into active Federal service 29 July 1999 at Annville)
  • Reorganized 1 September 1999 in the Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, and West Virginia Army National Guard, to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 28th Infantry Division, and Companies G and H

  • (1st Battalion ordered into active Federal service 10 October 2004 at home stations)

  • (1st Battalion released from active Federal service 7 April 2006 and reverted to state control)
  • Reorganized 1 September 2006 in the Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, Tennessee, and West Virginia Army National Guard, to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 28th Infantry Division
  • (2d Battalion ordered into active Federal service 29 January 2009 at home stations; released from active Federal service 4 March 2010 and reverted to state control)
  • Reorganized 1 February 2011 in the Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and West Virginia Army National Guard, to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 28th Infantry Division
  • (1st Battalion ordered into active Federal service 21 August 2012 at home stations; released from active Federal service 24 September 2013 and reverted to state control)
