- Constituted 25 January 1963 in the Regular Army as Company B, 2d Aviation Battalion, an element of the 2d Infantry Division
- Activated 20 February 1963 at Fort Benning, Georgia
- Reorganized and redesignated 16 September 1988 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 2d Aviation, and remained assigned to the 2d Infantry Division (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
- Relieved 16 June 2005 from assignment to the 2d Infantry Division, and assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 2d Infantry Division
- Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 2d Battalion, 2d Aviation Regiment
