  • Constituted 28 July 1866 in the Regular Army as Company F, 9th Cavalry
  • Organized during September and October 1866 in Louisiana
  • (Cavalry companies officially designated as troops in 1883)
  • (9th Cavalry assigned 1 March 1933 to the 3d Cavalry Division; relieved 10 October 1940 from assignment to the 3d Cavalry Division and assigned to the 2d Cavalry Division)
  • Inactivated 7 March 1944 in North Africa
  • Disbanded 20 October 1950
  • Reconstituted 1 December 1957 in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 6th Reconnaissance Squadron, 9th Cavalry
  • Redesignated 30 June 1971 as Troop F, 9th Cavalry, assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, and activated in Vietnam
  • Inactivated 26 February 1973 in Vietnam and relieved from assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division
  • Assigned 20 April 1999 to the 1st Cavalry Division
  • Activated 17 April 2003 at Fort Hood, Texas
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as Troop F, 9th Cavalry Regiment
  • Reorganized and redesignated 17 October 2005 as Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, relieved from assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division and assigned to the 3d Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
