SUBJECT: Disposition Instructions - 2d Battalion, 68th Armor

  1. Reference memorandum, AETV-THO-RS, 27 February 1997, subject: Request for disposition of historical property.
  2. In accordance with Army Regulations 840-10, 870-5 and 870-20, you are authorized to forward unit colors, standards and guidons and unit historical property    belonging to the 2d Battalion, 68th Armor, for storage.
  1. The document number for this transaction is W74R7L-7058-0003 (1997). All future inquiries will cite this document number, and all shipping invoices, DD Forms 1348, and related collections records will reflect this number as well. A copy of this authorization will accompany each box.
  2. Flags, colors, standards, guidons, and streamers should be carefully packed in accordance with the enclosed instructions, and sent to: U.S. Army Center of Military History Clearing House, ATTN: DAMH-MDH, 7 Frankford Ave. Anniston Army Depot, Anniston, AL 36201-4199. A DA Form 3161 will be completed for each item in accordance with the enclosed example.
  3. Organizational historical property (items accounted for on a DA Form 2609 historical property card, such as unit silver and captured enemy equipment) will be packed separately from items in paragraphs a. and c. and will be sent to: US Army Center of Military History Clearing House, ATTN: DAME-MDH, 7 Frankford Ave. Anniston Army Depot, Anniston, AL 36201-4199. A DD Form 1348 will be completed for each item in accordance with the enclosed example. In addition, copies of the DA Form 2609 and any source of acquisition information

should be included in the box. Three copies of the packing list, along with unit inactivation orders, will be included: two outside the box, and one inside. The outside four sides of the box will be marked in half-inch letters: 2D BATTALION, 68TH ARMOR, over HISTORICAL PROPERTY, over (DATE PACKED).

  1. Historical firearms and ordnance will be packed carefully and shipped to Anniston Army Depot. Copies of the DA Form 2609 and source of acquisition information should be included.
  2. Any tactical combat vehicles or other large items held as historical property will be reported (not sent) to the US Army Center of Military History, ATTN: DAMH-MDC, 1099 14th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20005-3402 for separate disposition instructions. Reports should include nomenclature, condition, and operational status.
  3. Items such as artwork, band instruments, or three dimensional objects should be considered historical property and handled in accordance with paragraph 2c. above.
  1. Organizational history files (Unit Historical Files (870-5), lineage and honors certificates, photos, etc.) should be removed from frames and sent to the US Army Center of Military History, ATTN: DAMH-HSO, 1099 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005-3402. Please do not send plaques and/or trophies to this address.
  2. Official records will be disposed of in accordance with AR 25-400-2, The Modern Army Recordkeeping system (MARKS).
  3. Unofficial records will be transferred to the US Army Military History institute, Carlisle Barracks, PA., 17013-5008. Include copies of unit inactivation orders with the box.
  4. AR 740-13, Storage of Organizational Trophies and Related objects, has been rescinded. Guidance from DA DCSLOG is to dispose of unit fund property locally. If any unit fund

property items can be considered historical property, the commander should so designate them in accordance with AR 870-20 and include them in the historical property to be stored.
