The following directory of bibliographies has been compiled over the years by personnel of the Historical Resources Branch, US Army Center of Military History. It is intended merely to provide an introduction to the rich historical source materials which abound for the militia and National Guard. These bibliographies are not comprehensive in nature, and are only supplemental to bibliographies compiled by the US Army Military History Institute; by command historians at the National Guard Bureau or the individual state Adjutants General; or by state and local historical societies and libraries. Click here to view a simple matrix suggesting various types of federal and non-federal sources and their most common repositories, arranged by time period. Personnel with suggestions for additions, corrections or deletions to the various bibliographies are encouraged to submit recommendations to the Historical Resources Branch via the Webmaster.
