Constituted 3 March 1855 in the Regular Army as the Band, 2d Cavalry
Organized in December 1856 at Camp Verde, Texas
Redesignated 3 August 1861 as the Band, 5th Cavalry
Disbanded in December 1866 at Camp Sedgwick, Washington, D.C.
Reconstituted in 1869 in the Regular Army as the Band, 5th Cavalry, and organized at Camp Sedgwick, Washington, D.C.
(5th Cavalry assigned in December 1917 to the 15th Cavalry Division; relieved in May 1918 from assignment to the 15th Cavalry Division; assigned 18 December 1922 to the 1st Cavalry Division; Regiment dismounted 28 February 1943 and reorganized 4 December 1943 partly under cavalry and partly under infantry tables of organization and equipment)
Reorganized and redesignated 3 June 1945 as the 1st Cavalry Division Band
Consolidated 1 September 1963 with Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Cavalry Division Trains, and consolidated unit reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters, Headquarters and Band, 1st Cavalry Division Support Command
Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1968 as Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Band, 1st Cavalry Division Support Command
Band element withdrawn 5 May 1971 from Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Band, 1st Cavalry Division Support Command, and consolidated with the 15th Adjutant General Company; consolidated unit designated as the 15th Adjutant General Company
Band element withdrawn 1 September 1985 from the 15th Adjutant General Company and redesignated as the 1st Cavalry Division Band
