Three coins commemorating the US Army have recently been struck by the US Mint which will only be available through 2011. The coins, designed in collaboration with the Army Historical Foundation (AHF), celebrate the Army’s history, heritage, and those who have served in both war and peace.A portion of the proceeds from the coins sale will contribute to the construction of the National Museum of the United States Army which will be located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The project, once completed, will become the Army’s premiere museum and a national landmark.
The coins – gold, silver, and clad half-dollar – feature images of soldiers in themes representing ‘Army Service in War,’ ‘Modern Army Service,’ and ‘Army Service in Peace.’ They symbolize the Army’s continuity of strength, loyalty to its commitment to defend the nation, its ongoing twenty-first century commitments, and its numerous peacetime contributions.
